We had great weekend at the Breakforth conference. As always, it was busy, tiring and had some powerful (and cheesy) moments. Each year I am impressed by the organization that must be required to host an event of that size. Here's Todd's summary of the weekend. I agree with him on the coolest gizmo. The highlight for me was my sessions with Stuart Briscoe. At 74 years old he just seemed to be drawing from a deeper well - his fun, British perspective and many years of preaching ministry make him a pleasure to listen to. I enjoyed the Newsboys and the Chris Rice concert and it was great addition to have KP Yohannen and his convicting perspective there. Here's a couple thoughts from the weekend that seems to be sticking with me:
What if our hero's were those with great character rather than those with great gifts? - Brian Doerksen
We need to be reminded more than we need to be taught. - Stuart Briscoe
The best part was spending time listening and talking with the many Yellowknife disciples that made the journey. People from here make sacrifices to have Breakforth be a mountain-top experience. In this city, in this season, most trips out are either about kids hockey or laying on sunny beaches - nothing wrong with either - but I have come to really appreciate those who set aside this weekend in January every year for faith-building.
Welcome back!
I love the Briscoe quote. That thinking has been fueling a lot of my thoughts on church recently, thoughts I'm sure I'll blog about soon.
Stay warm.
