A couple of people who knew that I was scheduled for a root canal today let me know that, "it's really not so bad." and "I don't think you'll mind it." They were wrong - real wrong.
Apparently, my mouth does not freeze properly or else the freezing drug had been on the shelf too long. Even though the dentist kept jabbing in the needle with the "take-away- the-pain" stuff - I still jumped to the roof partway thru her efforts to get rid of the nerves in my tooth. Finally after more needles and more gymnastical gyrations (I recall five vivid leaps), she said that there was no where left to freeze and so she dumped in some kind of "this might kill the nerve" drug and put the lid back on my tooth.
She said, "This has never happened to me before."
I said, "Me meemerrrr."
And then she said the words which are still bothering me to this moment, "Let's try again next Thursday."
I think my mouth was too frozen for her to clearly understand my response...
You probably have some living tissue that is inflammed in the canal. Sometimes it is very hard to get rid of all the pain sensations. I hate it when that happens. I still remember it happening to me when I was getting a root canal done. Sharp intense pain! No fun at all. However the chances are that next time you will get completely numb. For your sake,I hope so.
